To drive engagement for AIR MILES, we leveraged our experience and knowledge of mobile game theory and developed the “Check-In Challenge.” The Check-In Challenge ranks the number of check-ins members do at AIR MILES sponsored locations against other members, and distributed prizes based on their rankings. Adding a gamification aspect triggered an exceptionally positive reaction with consumers, resulting in an immediate

increase of mobile engagement, having it grow by over 1500% in the first 9 week. The app also saw sustained usage, averaging 10,000 check-ins daily two years after launch, and a sustained transactional lift of between 5 – 20% following its launch. It has not only garnered rave reviews, but has an addicted following of users who visit the app daily.
